Welcome to the official website of Walter Silima.

Hi, welcome to my official website,  I am Walter Silima an MSc (Astrophysics and Space Science) research student at the University of the Western Cape (South Africa). I live in Claremont, Cape Town, South Africa. Currently, I am appointed as a tutor for Data Science for Astronomy at the University of Cape Town. I graduated with a first-class honours degree (Astrophysics and Space Science) in 2020 at the University of Cape Town. I  completed a National Astrophysics and Space Science Program (NASSP) non-degree certificate (2019) and I have obtained a Cum Laude in Bachelor of Sciences, University of Limpopo (2018).

I am an astrophysicist and space science research student. I research the formation and evolution of galaxies over the life of the Universe by considering the measurements from both ground-based and space-based telescopes. I adopt the best available statistical and machine learning techniques to automate tasks such as classification, estimating photometric redshifts that are manually carried out by astronomers. I have worked with multidimensional datasets such as SDSS DR16, WISE and MeeKAT data. I have experience in data visualisation, data analysis, data mining and developing python pipelines to classify radio sources.
